Up for sale is the 1964 Tokyo Olympics 6217-7000 World Time in Excellent Original Condition. Images: https://imgur.com/a/Maa98rv Video: https://imgur.com/H9nun61 Timestamp: https://imgur.com/a/CnICnsG In 1964, Tokyo hosted the Summer Olympics, marking Japan’s debut on the global stage. Seiko, a relatively unknown watchmaker, took a huge gamble — becoming the official timekeeper for the Games, a role long held by Swiss giants like Omega and Longines. With no experience in sports timing, Seiko’s team built everything from scratch: stopwatches, digital displays, and electronic timing systems. The result? 1,278 devices ensuring flawless timekeeping across all Olympic venues, propelling Seiko onto the world stage. Alongside this achievement, Seiko released the 6217-7000 World Time. It wasn’t just a world timer — it symbolized Japan’s rise on the global scene. The rotating inner bezel marked with 24 cities was a tool for the growing international traveler, signaling that Japan was now part of the global conversation. The 37mm watch, with its black and silver dial, black GMT hand, and Seiko’s in-house 6217A automatic movement, combined functionality with design. It wasn’t flashy, but it had presence, just like the country it represented. The 6217-7000 wasn’t just a timepiece — it was a statement. Seiko wasn’t imitating Swisswatchmakers anymore; they were doing things their own way. Five years later, Seiko would launch the Quartz Astron, the world’s first quartz wristwatch, but that moment began with the Olympics. The 6217-7000 marked the moment Japan told the world, “We’re here.” Specifications: This watch features a 37mm stainless steel case, 43mm lug-to-lug, and 19mm lug width, with a rotating inner bezel displaying major cities across the globe. The standout feature is the vivid blue and black 24-hour ring, designed to allow quick reference across multiple time zones. Powered by the self-winding Caliber 6217, using the same caliber as the legendary diver 62Mas, this model was one of the earliest automatic world time watches made in Japan, emphasizing functionality wrapped in vintage mid-century styling. Conditions: The watch is in excellent original condition, showing only minor hairline scratches from light wear. The crystal is flawless and clean. The bracelet fits up to 19.5cm (~7.5 inches) and it is in excellent shape for its age. It has been recently serviced and is keeping excellent time (+/-3s). While the original box is not included, a standard Seiko box will be provided upon purchase. Price: $1600 + $35 flat shipping (via FedEx/DHL – shipping costs me around $70-$80, so I cover half). Payment via PayPal F&F or G&S (+4.6% fee covered by the buyer). Not accepting trades. Feel free to message me with any questions or if you're interested. Have a great day!
