This is the original pre-1675 GMT with no crown guards, the reference that launched the GMT line and predates the entire 1675/16750 era. The clean, crown-guard-less case is one of the defining early-GMT traits, and Rolex abandoned this design shortly after. This example retains its original 1958 6542 case and houses the correct Rolex Cal. 1030 GMT movement, the earliest GMT movement architecture before Rolex transitioned to the 1036. It carries mid-1980s Rolex service components (bezel, insert, hands) from a Rolex service event in Charlotte, South Carolina, and the dial retains its original metal base with a later refinish. Very few honest 6542s of any configuration surface publicly, especially running examples. **Inspection and Verification:** Inspected in person by Giovanni Passalacqua, a Bay Area vintage Rolex specialist, who confirmed a genuine 1958 6542 case, correct 1030 GMT movement, original dial base metal, and authentic Rolex service components. The watch is running. Formally appraised by Mark A. Watson (GIA/NAWCC, San Francisco) for insurance at approximately $50,000. The Rolex Boutique (Kern Jewelers, San Francisco) also looked it over.
