I’m offering a rare King Seiko 4502-7001 in Mint to Unused condition. The 45KS is highly coveted by vintage King Seiko collectors, and it’s easy to see why. Powered by a high-frequency movement beating at 36,000 beats per hour, the accuracy of this watch is outstanding—surpassing even that of my modern Grand Seiko models. This 45KS has been a standout piece in my collection for several years. The dial, crystal, case, medallion, and buckle are all in impeccable condition. The only component that wasn’t perfect when I acquired it was the strap, which I’ve replaced with one that closely matches the original design. I purchased this watch in Japan during a conference and have since kept it carefully stored in my watch box. Given how rarely I’ve worn it, I’ve decided to list it for sale in the hope that someone else will appreciate its beauty and craftsmanship as much as I have. I’m asking $1,400, which includes shipping and insurance. The time stamp is in the last photo.

The company was founded in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewelry shop called "K. Hattori" (服部時計店 Hattori Tokeiten?) in the Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, he began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha (精工舎 Seikōsha?), meaning roughly "House of Exquisite Workmanship". According to Seiko's official company history, titled "A Journey In Time: The Remarkable Story of Seiko" (2003), Seiko is a Japanese word meaning "exquisite" or "success" ("exquisite" is usually written 精巧 from Chinese jīngqiǎo, while the meaning "success" is usually written 成功 from Chinese chénggōng).

Seiko is perhaps best known for its wristwatches, all of which were at one time produced entirely in-house. This includes not only major items such as microgears, motors, hands, crystal oscillators, batteries, sensors, LCDs but also minor items such as the oils used in lubricating the watches and the luminous compounds used on the hands and the dials.
