Seiko SpeedTimer 6139-6000 automatic chrono from April 1969
Seiko SpeedTimer 6139-6000 automatic chrono from April 1969
Today, I’m offering for sale a particular vintage gem: this vintage Seiko SpeedTimer 5 Sports automatic chronograph 6139-6000 (Japan Domestic Market version) with a blue dial. The special feature of this watch is its month of production, namely April 1969, which makes it one of the earliest automatic chronographs ever produced. This model is nicknamed “Ikuzawa” by Seiko collectors in honor of the Japanese racing driver Tetsu Ikuzawa, who wore such a model in the cockpit of his Formula 1 racing car. Moreover, a 6139 with a blue dial (independent of the “Pogue” model with a yellow dial) has been in space, on board a space shuttle mission in 1985.
Details:
► Extremely early automatic vintage chronograph and the characteristics of these first models (SpeedTimer label on the dial, notched case, two-piece chrono second hand, PROOF/PROOF labels)
► Exceptionally well-preserved stainless steel case without major flaws and with a beautiful radial cut on the front side
► Dial without visible blemishes, inner rotating bezel free of discoloration and operable via the crown, luminous material completely intact
► Embossing on the back cover perfectly legible
► Mineral glass with only a few scratches, barely noticeable from the front view, and undamaged edge
► Seiko 6139A movement, starts immediately and keeps time within typical vintage specs (deviation well below 1m/d without active chronograph; service history unknown), all functions including chronograph and day (Kanji/English, Sunday in red) and date as well as its quick adjustment work flawlessly
► 3 straps: sporty vintage-style grey suede rally strap, ribbed NATO strap with matching colours, vintage steel bracelet in the style of the original steel bracelet for this model
Dimensions:
► Diameter: approx. 42mm without pushers
► Lug-to-lug: approx. 47mm
► Height: approx. 13mm
► Lug width: 19mm
Price:
Due to the historical significance of this example with a serial number from 04/1969 and the characteristics of this very early production period (SpeedTimer label, notched case, two-piece chrono second hand, PROOF/PROOF labels) I am asking EUR 980,- plus international insured shipping according to destination.
And now for the pictures:
The watch is located in Austria (EU) and so am I. I do have plenty of international references from various watch enthusiasts (also known here), so please feel free to ask for them.
Just for the records: I am a private collector and, therefore, the watch comes without any personal guarantee given by me. Nevertheless, I am offering to give a full refund less fully insured shipping expenses in case the piece sold would not be as described by me (within an inspection period of three days and to buyers from within the EU only due to the complex customs procedure in case of an overseas deal).
Thanks for reading and thanks to the Chronotrader platform and its host!
Kind regards,
F.Antl
