Watches were produced in their factory in Springfield, Illinois.* We wanted to create a conversion that would age over time like the timepieces we case. Stainless steel is sturdy and clean, but we wanted to offer a different material, so we spent the last year designing a bronze version of our stainless model. Every component is cut from solid bronze—even the screws, lug bars, and buckle. The bronze we use is 93% copper, so it starts out looking like rose gold and will develop a patina over time. We decided to case an Illinois movement from 1919 with a near-flawless porcelain-enamel dial. The watch hands were restored to their original near-flawless heat-blued condition—a process that required multiple heating, cooling, and polishing steps to achieve the perfect deep blue hue. On the movement, the striped damaskeening (Geneva stripes) looks incredible against the bronze case. Front, back, and crown gaskets provide 50 meters of water resistance although it is recommended to take the piece off before water activities.
