I am offering for sale my Seiko 5 SNK381, the “Modern MACV SOG.” This Seiko 5 reference is best known as the closest stylistic match for the famous Seiko MACV SOG references from the Vietnam War: * I purchased the stock SNK381 from a seller on Chrono24 in 2024 * I am offering this as watch only with no box or papers * The watch comes on a single-pass olive-green NATO strap (pictured) * I made the following modifications to the watch to bring it even closer to the original MACV SOG references * Swapped the stock leaf hands for baton hands * Swapped the stock white date wheel with a black date wheel to match the two-tone day-date on the originals * Changed the flat crystal with a domed sapphire crystal that more closely matches the crystal shape on the originals. The originals use a hardlex crystal, not sapphire, but the sapphire crystal is more durable and legible * Most significantly, I replaced the stock 7S26 movement with a NH36 movement. The stock movement is automatic-winding only (no hand-winding) and lacks hacking seconds. The NH36 brings both these features to the watch and is a significant upgrade * This watch comes with an exhibition caseback, which differs from original MACV SOG watches. The “Made in China” refers to the case/caseback. Seiko assembles these watches in their Malaysia facility I am asking $200 USD + $30 CONUS shipping or hand delivery in the SF Bay Area.
