B-Uhr is the abbreviation of Beobachtungs-uhr, which translates to "observation watches”. With a large 55mm case size, these were highly legible and the black dials with white Arabic numerals further aided the task. Five manufacturers, four German and one Swiss, supplied the B-Uhren: A. Lange & Söhne, Wempe, Lacher & Company/Durowe (Laco), and Stowa.
