True to form - if a watch looks unusual, it will find an audience in Japan. **The Inspiration.** Exaequo named the piece after Salvador Dali’s The Persistence of Memory, the surrealist masterpiece famous for its melting watches. Despite having always been called the “Dali”, the first version carried no text on the dial. The second only displayed the words “Softwatch”. It was the third iteration - the “Dali Dial” on offer today - that changed everything for Exaequo. **The Problem.** Adding Dali’s signature to the centre of the dial was the legal equivalent of flying too close to the Sun. The artist’s estate sued, and in 1998, unable to meet the mounting legal costs, Exaequo closed its doors. **Details:** **Condition:** In good condition overall.
