[WTS] Seiko March 1979 "Type-II" (7546-7090), Japan-Made Early Quartz, Silver Linen Dial, Original Bracelet, $130
For sale is this vintage Seiko "Type-II" (7546-7090), Made in Japan in March of 1979. The Type-II series by Seiko was aimed at making a quartz series of quality that was more affordable (as quartz watches were very expensive at the time) than the QT/QR/QZ cal.38 and cal.48 series that preceded the despite most of the Type-II line being more expensive than the automatic offerings at the time. They were more playful, often with exclusive colorways and dials. This example, reference number QHK200, has an excellent silver linen dial in almost spotless condition which has a mirror-like quality to it when it plays in the light. The chunky indices are black blocks flanked by high-polish stainless steel that have quite a presence. The hands pair nicely to the indices with a more blocky take on Seiko's classic dauphine hands being high-polish with a coarsely brushed centre. The Seiko logo and the single crystal quartz symbol are applied. The Suwa swirl symbol on the dial and the case back indicate that the watch was designed and manufactured by the Suwa factory during its fierce rivalry with the Daini factory. The finishing on the curvaceous case is still intact with some wonderful radial brushing on the top side and high-polish on the sides. The curves even extend to the lugs of the case, hiding the ends of the strap neatly. The calibre 7546 movement is beautiful with its distinct green plates and I believe the 75 series were developed upon to become the 78 series that were for the Lord Quartz series that Seiko later released shortly after the Type-II series. The days of the week are bilingual and can be displayed in either Japanese Kanji or English all in black except for Saturday (blue) and Sunday (red). Comes on the original Seiko stainless steel bracelet in a style that is unique to this model. It can accommodate up to an 18cm wrist and it even has a spring-loaded expander system (for when your wrist expands on hotter days) that can increase the length by an extra 1cm for extra comfort. In good condition for its age being almost 50 years old with some great '70s styling. General wear expected. Crystal has some wear. Dial is almost spotless. Dimensions are: 34.7mm x 41mm x 10.2mm Lug Width 18mm Bought in Japan.
