I’m delighted to be selling a reissue of the classic and beloved Ripley Seiko. Made famous by its inclusion in the original Aliens film (1986, dir. James Cameron), the Ripley was reissued in 2016 in limited numbers. 3000 were issued, and the one I’m selling today happens to be 2024/3000, so if you’re looking for the perfect gift to ring in the New Year… this might be it! A 60-minute chronograph, 24-hour dial, stop-watch with split/lap time, and a subtle date window at 3 o’clock. I’ve just changed the battery, and according to Seiko it should last 5 years with normal usage. +/- 15 seconds per month. * *Limited Edition*. Numbered 2024 out of 3000, which is a fun coincident if you’re looking to give yourself the perfect present for 2024! * *Unique Design*. Originally designed by the legendary car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, and faithfully recreated by Seiko in 2016. The 1980s 7A28 version of the “Ripley” was originally designed by Giugiaro to give racing car drivers easy and quick access to the chronograph pushers. However, the outlandish visuals of the watch landed it a role in Aliens as James Cameron decided the watch, and other Giugiaro designed Seiko watches, looked futuristic enough to be worn by the cast of Aliens! * *Tank Tread Bracelet*. Feels as fantastic to wear as it looks. A matte, almost beadblasted titanium-grey finish. Unfortunately, I don’t have the spare links, so the bracelet is limited to a medium-sized 16cm in length. Despite looking like it would need a proprietary end-link system, it would actually fit lots of normal 20mm straps, or thin bracelets. **Condition**: Mostly in good condition. The hyper-polished case back, like many 7A28s, has been scratched by its own bracelet. The markings are represented accurately in the pictures. Similarly, the crystal has a couple of tiny nicks in it – they are also very visible in the photos (and are far less visible in real life; I just prefer to include the most detailed version of them in the pictures). **Scope**: No original box or papers; comes in a Provenance Watches stamped leather travel case **Movement**: 7T12 quartz, with battery replacement yesterday **Case Width**: 42mm **Lug to lug:** 42mm **Case Thickness**: 10.8mm **Bracelet width:** 20mm **Strap Length**: 160mm **Price**: Offered at **$1150** plus shipping (sent from London, UK; costs $5-$30 depending on where you are in the world). I’m selling it $200 less than the most recent (six months ago) SCED035 sale on here as it’s in slightly more worn case-back, and it has a shorter bracelet.
