Hey WatchEx, today we've got a rare vintage Grand Seiko from 1969 (nice) at a reduced price. [Pictures](https://imgur.com/a/z9e9cFs) [Timestamp](https://i.imgur.com/9gpBfqi.jpg) This reference 6146-8000 was the first Hi Beat GS ever produced and is thus quite special. Ticking away at 36000 vph, or 10 ticks per second, is quite a feat of engineering particularly for 1969. To show just how well made GS watches were, even in their infancy as a company, this movement is still ticking away strong and keeping good time nearly 60 years later! The case is "gold cap" which is the closest you can get to solid gold without paying the full precious metal price. The case is a two piece assembly of a stainless steel core wrapped by a thick blanket of gold. This technique gives a finish that is much thicker than typical gold plating, meaning you can wear this as intended without fear of wearing through the gold to reveal the steel beneath it. Additionally this particular example has developed a stunning lavender/purple patina on the dial that I've never encountered before. It started its life as a silver dial and somehow, over time, acquired a beautiful purple hue. It matches the warmth of the gold beautifully and I have paired it with a dark green leather strap with gold buckle. These models rarely come up for sale for under $1,000 in the stainless steel versions, much less in gold cap. However I have priced it low since it shows signs of being well loved. Mainly the case seems to have been polished and the stainless steel near the lugs shows some signs of pitting. There are some scratches on the case and the crystal is in great condition. More info on this particular reference can be found here: [https://shop.hodinkee.com/products/day-date-hi-beat-36000-ref-6146-8000?variant=39879354712139](https://shop.hodinkee.com/products/day-date-hi-beat-36000-ref-6146-8000?variant=39879354712139) [https://adventuresinamateurwatchfettling.com/2019/10/05/over-a-barrel-a-grand-seiko-6146-8000-from-1969/](https://adventuresinamateurwatchfettling.com/2019/10/05/over-a-barrel-a-grand-seiko-6146-8000-from-1969/) Watch specs: MAKER: Grand Seiko MODEL: 6146-8000 YEAR: 1969 CASE MATERIAL: Solid gold cap CASE WIDTH: 36.5mm LUG WIDTH: 18mm HEIGHT: 11.7mm, caseback to top of crystal CRYSTAL: Acrylic LUME: No FUNCTION: Hours, seconds, day & date MOVEMENT: Grand Seiko Cal. 6146 automatic/self-winding Price: Asking ~~$750~~ $650 shipped within the US, worldwide can be considered for additional shipping costs. Please note that I will ensure everything is packaged safely and securely and can provide evidence of packaging and running state of watch prior to sending but once package is dropped off for shipping I take no responsibility for acts of god or handling during shipping.
