Here is a good example of the Grand Seiko SLGH005. Inside, this watch beats the 9SA5 hi-beat movement with Grand Seiko’s own dual impulse escapement. This is similar to Omega’s Co-axial with a slightly different way of releasing the spring. The movement isn’t the only highlight of the watch as the case and bracelet are a step up from the typical Grand Seiko designs.
The one flaw of most GS models is that they are too thick to be elegant, and the bracelet has the same quality as watches from the 90s. These flaws were corrected with the new 9 Evolution line, which the SLGH005 is part of. At 12 mm thick (technically, 11.7mm) it fits nicely under a cuff. The bracelet has a nice taper from the lugs to the clasp, starting at 22mm and slimming to 20mm at the clasp.
Of course, like most Grand Seiko models, the dial is a show-stopper, resembling the white birch bark outside the studio where this watch was designed. You can see in the pictures that it can turn from a shiny silver to a bright white and then to a light grey, depending on the light.
This particular model is in good condition with light wear marks on the case and bracelet. It comes with the original box and papers but it is missing the international warranty card. However, it does have the Grand Seiko Factory Inspection Certificate.
It is currently sized for a 6.25 inch wrist and includes 4.5 extra links.
