I may regret this one day, but in keeping with my philosophy of how watches are meant to be worn and how little wrist time this one gets, let’s do this!! This is a special one, friends! Available today is the original Vostok “Luna Dude” or Cosmodiver GMT. This watch is sometimes referred to as the watch that never was because it was designed (by Ole Dokka), produced, publicly advertised, but then never actually released because of a dispute between the watch designer and Meranom that manufactured the parts for this custom build. Meranom then sold off the first run of parts to anyone fast enough to procure them. A Cosmodiver was produced, but it was done so by Micromilspec. The watch they produced wasn't a Vostok, it no longer had a GMT movement or the small seconds, and it was appreciably more expensive than the initial project. In short, it did not have the heart that the original project had promised. This one is built from that first run of original parts that I purchased in December of ‘21. I then had to wait until spring of ‘22 to get the donor watch for the movement and the case. I had it built by a Vostok modder in May and it has been part of my collection since. The only part I could not procure at the time was the Cosmodiver caseback so I got a Yuri Gagarin one. The Cosmodiver caseback is readily available to purchase from Meranom. This is a complete kit which will include the watch, the specially designed Cosmodiver NATO,, a Vostok Shark Mesh bracelet, a display caseback in case you ever want to gaze upon the might of a Russian movement, and even a Vostok box and papers for the movement. Upon request I can provide screenshots of the orders I placed to verify these are the original run of parts.
