This is a rare Japanese-market Alba K2000 chronograph featuring a V657 quartz movement. It resembles the iconic Seiko “Ripley” which was penned by Giugiaro Design, but it is unlikely that Giugiaro actually had a hand in the Alba version (Alba being a sub-brand of Seiko). Instead, it seems like Alba created several watches inspired by various Giugiaro Seikos. (The Alba Flap Duck is another.) While it has the side-pusher arrangement like the Ripley—the side-pushers, by the way, are very ergonomic and easy to use on the wrist—the rest of the watch is very different. Instead of austere futurism, the K2000 is retro, with a big, bold C-type case with strong vertical brushing, a bold polished bezel, and a very three-dimensional dial.  Gallery: [https://imgur.com/a/Px7Ba1u](https://imgur.com/a/Px7Ba1u) Timestamp: [https://imgur.com/IwQdfhp](https://imgur.com/IwQdfhp)  Video: [https://imgur.com/228p4Lc](https://imgur.com/228p4Lc) The dial starts with the tachymeter ring, which is flat under the crystal, and slopes down dramatically with an angled chapter ring with 10-second increments. The sub-dials are further slightly inset with beveled sides. The multi-layered dial is hard to appreciate in pictures, but it’s complicated enough and well-finished enough to rival any Seiko of the era. Blue and orange accents give some liveliness to the classy steel-silver dial. All this should reveal that this watch isn’t interesting merely because of the pusher arrangement; it’s handsome and interesting in its own right. The V657 movement is otherwise typical, with a center running seconds, and subdials for 1/10 seconds, 1 seconds and minutes. The 1/10 second hand stops running after a minute to conserve power but if you stop the chronograph it will snap to whatever the correct reading should be. The movement tis working perfectly and stops, splits, resets and restarts properly. No known functional issues. There is very light cosmetic wear; it is definitely better than average. It was worn sparingly in my time with the watch. It came without its original bracelet, which had broad and flat links. Instead, it’s on a “temporary” Spiedel rubber strap as I don’t have anything more suitable to pair it with. I wore it with a thin single-pass that I am keeping, but that is an option as well. A nicer rubber or silicone strap might look nice. The lugs are 18mm and close to the case, so a thicker pass-through strap won’t work and some thicker leather straps won’t either. The watch is sizable—44mm wide, about 48mm lug to lug, and around 12mm thick—but a lot of the width is the pusher module and it wears smaller. I have 6.25-inch wrists and it wore great for me. Tons of wrist presence.  This is a phenomenal watch and I am reluctantly parting with it to chase a grail (aren’t we all?).
