Truly a rare and exciting watch by Audemars Piguet; this Jules Audemars “Globe” (Ref. 15056OR.OO.A088CR.01) measures a perfect 36mm—cast in AP’s warm 18k pink gold. This piece is stunning in its proportions; with a simplicity of form in the case design and a sleek look on the wrist--but most compelling is the pairing of this classicism with a frenzy of eccentric stylistic details throughout.  The watch features a silvered and thoroughly three-dimensional dial, achieving an illusion of depth not only with the pictorial image of the "globe" but additionally from the texture of this guilloche work, the recessed “small-seconds” sub dial and the robust application of the lively Arabic numerals. The watch's early-2000s taste feels again today new and daring but simultaneously, nostalgically connected to the hand-painted “exploding” or “warped” numerals of 1930s and 40s dial design. The prominent and peculiar leaf-style hands feature the same all-original Super Luminova as the numerals--with the minute hand subtly stretching all the way past these large numerals to the surrounding outer minute marker railroad. This spectacular example includes its factory-original brown, satin-finished Alligator leather strap—the inner layer a supple and smooth calf skin, which is stamped by the brand. The buckle, a streamlined and understated form, is also in the 18k rose and signed by AP as well (featuring hallmarks on the inside). The thin, manual-winding movement is the reliable Cal. 3090; featuring 21 jewels, 148 parts total and is finished lovingly—all of which can be admired through the clear caseback. The movement has a 48 hour power reserve, is winding smoothly and seems to be keeping good time.  The watch sits nice and low on the wrist, just under 8mm at its thickest, yet the gradual dome of the crystal and outward tapering of the case really work to give the timepiece an ultra-thin look and feel. Not inclusive of the crown the case measures 36mm with a 39.5mm span lug to lug, a true sweet spot for a dress watch. The watch is Circa 1999-2010, with an E serial on the caseback bezel. This example has some light scratching and scuffs—please look at the images.
