As collectors discover the joys of a stone dial watch eyes are ever increasingly turning to Piaget, who put stone dials on the map starting in the 1960s. The Piaget Protocole is their Tank design with some really cool features like hidden lugs that make it appear as though the watch is floating on your wrist. Add in a gorgeous black onyx dial with the legendary ultra thin caliber 9P, complete with original strap and buckle, just a dynamite watch! REF: 9154 YEAR: 1980s DIAL: This one requires some stare time! Gorgeous rich black onyx with gold writing and hands - such a clean, classy look and in fantastic condition! CASE: Beautiful solid 18k yellow gold tapestry case. At 25MM by 28MM, it wears like a vintage men’s Cartier Tank, only slightly wider. So many design elements to check out: the way the crystal sits into the bezel, the hidden crown, the way the strap disappears into the lugs, the way the back fits into the case (this is an early unmarked example) it’s just AWESOME! Appears unpolished with nice rosy patina forming and light wear throughout - very sharp lines and crisp gold hallmarks. MOVEMENT: The hand wound caliber 9P broke records when it was first released in the 1950s, at just 2MM thick! Service history unknown but winds and sets very well with timegrapher showing 9 seconds per day and an amplitude of 252. STRAP: Comes on it’s original thin Piaget leather strap, complete with maybe my favorite all-time vintage buckle, the raised P logo. These are often lost to time, rarely sold seperstely and when they are found they’re expensive. This one has so much rosy patina forming on the gold, pops like crazy in the light!
