# SBGX253 Video: [https://youtube.com/shorts/YFTpU-oprgI](https://youtube.com/shorts/YFTpU-oprgI) Up for sale is this rare Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) model Grand Seiko SBGX253 with 9F62 movement in excellent condition. This case presents beautifully on the wrist with the combination of brushing and angled polished edges. The dial is fantastic, at first glance it looks to be a straightforward honeycomb pattern but then in certain light the texture comes out and it looks like a tatami woven mat. The watch case measures 37mm but it wears quite large due to the prominent crown guards (with those it measures 39 mm). The thick, chiseled lugs add to the visual presence as well. Wrist shot is of the watch on my \~6.75" wrist for sizing reference. This comes with the inner and outer boxes, original hang tags, manual, copy of GS service paper from January 2023, and a bracelet measuring 8.5" laid flat with the watch as shown. The company was founded in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewelry shop called "K. Hattori" (服部時計店 Hattori Tokeiten?) in the Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, he began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha (精工舎 Seikōsha?), meaning roughly "House of Exquisite Workmanship". According to Seiko's official company history, titled "A Journey In Time: The Remarkable Story of Seiko" (2003), Seiko is a Japanese word meaning "exquisite" or "success" ("exquisite" is usually written 精巧 from Chinese jīngqiǎo, while the meaning "success" is usually written 成功 from Chinese chénggōng).

Seiko is perhaps best known for its wristwatches, all of which were at one time produced entirely in-house. This includes not only major items such as microgears, motors, hands, crystal oscillators, batteries, sensors, LCDs but also minor items such as the oils used in lubricating the watches and the luminous compounds used on the hands and the dials.
