Up on the block today is something that pains me to let go, but I need to make room in my collection for an upcoming purchase. This is the Longines Avigation Big Eye from the Heritage Collection. Arguably one of the best column wheel-chronograph watches you can buy for your money, this Longines’ reinterpretation of a 1930s chronograph, won the revival award at the industry’s annual excellence awards at the 2017 watch Oscars, the Grand Prix De L’horlogerie De Genève. True to the spirit of pilots’ watches, the winning Longines model displays a very readable dial with a focus on the minute counter and impressive push buttons that enable the wearer to handle them while wearing gloves. The 41mm diameter case houses a L688 column wheel chronograph movement, its semi-glossy black dial is decorated with Arabic numerals coated with SuperLuminova©, and a domed crystal and brown leather watch strap add vintage elegance to the piece. I have owned this watch for the past 5 years or so and it has been a staple in my collection. It comes on the original leather strap with buckle that remains in good condition and shows signs of normal wear. The watch will come with the original strap, a custom leather nato, and two barton quick release canvas straps as shown.
