BWC Diving Chronograph, late-60s/early-70s, val. 7733, near-NOS
On offer is from my personal connection is a BWC (Buttes Watch Company) diving chronograph in near-NOS condition. This all steel, all original piece has great wrist presence and the dial has a really lovely color scheme. Lots of little details that evoke a racing theme. I haven't been able to date this one precisely, but judging by the batons, case, and dial layout, I'd say 1968-1972.
The Dial: Main color is a very rare racing-green, as befits the motorsports theme. Rectangular subdials are reminiscent of an automobile dashboard from the late-60s/early 70s. The minute subdial has both a 5-minute countdown timer and a 45 min. race demarcation. Outer telemetre dial in orange and tachy dial in white. White sweep second is complemented by white subdial batons with black racing stripes down the middle. Original lume on dial and baton hands has a nice buttery patina.
The Case: All-steel, ref. 2502 case is in near-NOS condition. 39mm diameter (w/o crown) makes for a robust wrist presence. Nice secondary beveling. All edges are razor sharp. No sign of polishing (or even any wear at all). Honestly, as far as vintage pieces from this period go, this is just about as nice as they come, condition-wise. Marked 20 atmospheres on caseback, with SCUBA diver logo. Though, as with any vintage piece, actual use for diving is not recommended (though you could wear it in the rain or get it splashed no problem).
The Movement: Hand-wound Valjoux 7733 movement. Very clean, running strong, and keeping good time. All chrono functions work perfectly and sweep hand resets to zero. One previous owner (German). Service history unknown.
Other Details: Original screw-down crown. Very sharp, broad-toothed metal countdown bezel, bi-directional, turns smoothly w/good tension. 20mm lugs. Comes with a brand new, racing-green RIOS leather strap that suits the piece perfectly.
I have been selling and buying on OF for years, always to the perfect satisfaction of all involved. Recent testimonials here:
