While only a small portion of its production belongs to the Heritage Collection, these pieces carry outsized historical weight. For decades, Longines has returned to its archives, selecting designs born from true functional purpose—aviation, navigation, science, and sport—and reinterpreting them for the modern era. This Tachymeter Automatic Chronograph is a perfect example of that philosophy. At 41mm in stainless steel, the case wears confidently without feeling oversized, with well-balanced proportions that sit comfortably on the wrist. The snow-white lacquered dial is where the character truly comes through. Unlike most chronographs, this model features two tachymeter scales: the outer blue-and-black scale for measuring speed over one kilometer, and the inner red scale for shorter 100-meter measurements. The tri-compax layout is clean and symmetrical, finished with blued steel hands and elegant Breguet-style numerals that reinforce the watch’s refined, instrument-like aesthetic.
