You truly can't talk about the history of watches/chronographs without mentioning Hanhart. While they aren't necessarily a household name in today's market, their origins are some of the very first wrist-worn chronographs/race timers. Steve McQueen, anyone? I've dealt with ordering directly from Hanhart before (when an issue arose with their exclusive US retailer), and the people behind the brand are truly wonderful. Simon Hall, their CEO/Master Watchmaker is truly a gem - easily the best experience I've ever had speaking with a watch brand at any level. The 417 es comes in two sizes currently, this being the larger of the two at 42mm. It wears about like you'd expect, though I personally prefer it without the bund portion of the leather strap as I have smaller wrists, just shy of 7". The dial is clean and classic, the bezel has a unique charm to it in both shape, function (bidirectional friction bezel), and the bright red paint at the top. The stark white hands contrast well against the matte black dial, and the vintage-inspired Arabic numerals have a light white outline to match.
