The Seiko SPB397 is a Limited Edition release from Seiko well-known Presage Craftsmanship series. The release was timed for the 110th anniversary of the brand’s first watch. Within the Presage line, the Craftsmanship series features dial techniques that are normally reserved for high-end pieces. This particular model utilizes Arita porcelain for its dial. Arita ware is named after the town where Japanese white porcelain ore was first discovered, and the industry established in Japan. The discovery of high quality porcelain led to porcelain ware that the Japanese were able to export to foreign markets for the first time. In the town of Arita, the Shingama Kiln has produced porcelain for almost 200 years. Traditional workmanship has been passed down through generations of the same family. Now, their craftsmanship has extended to the creation of these limited edition dials for Seiko, through the leadership of their senior craftsman, Hiroyuki Hashiguchi.
