Here’s a truly collectable neo-vintage tritium 42mm Speedmaster in stunning condition at a more than reasonable price point…
This second numbered edition display-back Apollo XI was produced in October 1988 with the production run limited to 1,000 watches – fewer than most of the officially designated Limited Edition Speedmasters…Relevant pages from the Speedmaster ‘bible’ – “Moonwatch Only” are included in the pics…
The first generation 345.0808 numbered steel display back Speedmasters were produced between 1985 and 1988 with a copper-coloured ‘luxury finish’ 863 calibre movement. Two visual differences identifying this second numbered edition (produced between 1988 and 1990) are a switch to the yellow-plated 863 and inclusion of an ‘A’ in front of the engraved number on the display back bezel.
Purchased three years ago from a fastidious Swiss-based Omega collector. Watch hasn’t been serviced in my ownership as functioning perfectly – winds effortlessly, all the chrono functions (start, stop, reset) working exactly as they should, accurate timekeeping at +/- 7s per day (see timegrapher pic taken 2 February 2024…)
The dial, bezel and hesalite crystal are unblemished. The logo, all writing and sub-dial markings are crisp and clear. There is absolutely no loss of the tritium lume and it has all aged to a very even light custard colour.
The case appears unpolished, the lugs are crisp and bevels show only a couple of very minor marks. All display back bezel writing is crisp and clear.
As an early example of the 2nd edition it’s fitted with the super comfortable and sought after 1450 bracelet, but has 809 end links (which were fitted to the ST 376.0822 ‘Holy Grail’) – rather than the expected 808s. Maybe these were fitted at the factory… The clasp has just a few (almost imperceptible) marks.
I have references under username Kiwibloke on the moderated Omega Forum for international sales (and purchases) – absolute integrity guaranteed.
