Watch was serviced in 2020 by RGM, Sinn's authorized US service center (including movement, replacement stem, and replacement gasket.
I will likely regret this one more than any other... it was my original grail when I first got into watches about 20 years ago, and is still a design I fall in love with every time I look at it. I just don't wear it nearly enough to justify holding on to it.
Featuring a heritage going back to the original classic 1960s Leonidas and Heuer military pilot watches, Sinn acquired the design rights in the early '80s and continued producing the same bezel and dial design, but with the then-modern Lemania 5100 center-minutes chronograph movement, incorporating extra subdials and a day/date window for its additional capabilities. (As a side note, I will probably go to my grave thinking that these numerals - especially the curved 4 - are the most beautiful ever printed on a watch dial.)
The 156 stayed in production for about 20 years (long enough for the Lemania 5100 to itself be considered a "classic"), with this being one of the last off the line. It features luminova hands and markers, one of the only design changes made over the course of production vs. the tritium of the early models. The luminova itself is a nice pale white, and not overly-green as you see in some early applications.
A controversial quirk of these is the use of the term "military" on the dial; while I believe Sinn did submit these to be considered for official Bundeswehr use, Tutima ultimately won the contract (also using the Lemania 5100), and the 156 never actually saw military service. But with a design tied directly to its ancestors' long legacy across multiple countries and forces, I wouldn't necessarily characterize it as "stolen valor".
I had been looking for one for a long time, and this is one if the nicer ones I've found. It isn't 100% perfect, there is a knick on the top right lug, but overall the case, bezel, and bracelet are in very good condition with minimal wear, and the functions and timekeeping are excellent. Bracelet is currently sized for about a 7 1/4" wrist and includes 4 extra links.
$2500 includes shipping within the continental US. Please contact me if you live elsewhere and we can split shipping. Prefer Zelle but open to other forms of payment, please contact me first.
