Model: Seiko and Nano Universe Japanese Domestic Market Only Collab SCVE046 This watch was a collaboration between Seiko and Japanese domestic market retailer Nano Universe. This handsome watch looks and feels much more luxurious than its price would suggest and has even blown the socks off of Tim Mosso during a watchbox review. The dial has all applique numerals (all lumed), an applique logo, a luxurious brown silky sunburst dial, and rose gold plated hands. The case is highly polished with a satin-finished bezel and lugs, which brings tremendous depth to the case. The caseback is a smoked color and is still translucent enough to see the movement (still has the original caseback sticker on, although it’s somewhat peeling). It has a dependable 4R36 movement and 100M water resistance. At only 300 made for the Japanese domestic market, this limited edition piece is a watch that you will almost never see stateside. I managed to obtain it years ago directly from Japan during its initial release. It is also the best-lumed watch I’ve come across during my time collecting, with Tim Mosso referring to it as a “made in Japan circular Super-Nova by night.” The original strap is still stickered and has never been worn or crimped. I spent a lot of time searching for the perfect strap for this watch and went with a Fluco Made in Germany Pigskin strap which is a splendid compliment to the watch and will be included. There are no marks or scratches on the watch, as it was kept in mint condition and has only ever been worn once since I made the original purchase. The company was founded in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewelry shop called "K. Hattori" (服部時計店 Hattori Tokeiten?) in the Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, he began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha (精工舎 Seikōsha?), meaning roughly "House of Exquisite Workmanship". According to Seiko's official company history, titled "A Journey In Time: The Remarkable Story of Seiko" (2003), Seiko is a Japanese word meaning "exquisite" or "success" ("exquisite" is usually written 精巧 from Chinese jīngqiǎo, while the meaning "success" is usually written 成功 from Chinese chénggōng).

Seiko is perhaps best known for its wristwatches, all of which were at one time produced entirely in-house. This includes not only major items such as microgears, motors, hands, crystal oscillators, batteries, sensors, LCDs but also minor items such as the oils used in lubricating the watches and the luminous compounds used on the hands and the dials.
