A seldom seen Seiko 8T23, this was Seiko at it's 1980's best.

The were made in the 1980s and this one dates to October 1986. The huge milled crown is present and was oversized due to the time needed to fully charge the capacitor.

The capacitor holds charge, the red light activates during wind, but I haven't seen the green full charge light as yet. The watch runs for +24 hrs on a good wind, so is usable for rotational wear.

The watch is in superb condition and comes on a used brown saffiano leather strap as seen. The case is 35mm excluding the crown, lug size is 18mm. It wears well on the wrist as the large crown adds to its width. All parts appear original apart from the band.

Some details written on this piece by Coron.net :

"The world’s first manual winding quartz movement was Seiko’s Cal. 8T32, released by Seiko in the late 1980s. The wearer would be able to wind the crown and turn a small electrical generator, which charged a capacitor. This timepiece would be discontinued a year later, as it was not commercially viable due to a variety of reasons. Without going too much in depth, one of the main reasons was an astonishing 3-5 minute winding time for 75 hours of power reserve.

Though ultimately a commercial failure, Seiko can adapt and create new conceptual and physical models through an iterative learning process. Almost all innovations are the result of ''previous learning failures."
