The absolutely incredible and rarely seen Rolex Shantung dial, also known as the mosaic dial, with silk woven through to create a masterpiece. Only made for a few years and exclusively for the Japanese market - they don’t come up often but when they do ya seem ‘em in blue, occasionally in white, but rarely in gray like this beauty! REFERENCE: 1500 DATE: 1970 SERIAL NUMBER: 2,577,XXX DIAL: The star of the show! Goes from an even steel to a crazy gray and taupe tapestry! Some lume degradation and light patina around the edges seem under a loupe, but looks awesome on the wrist, all plots are present and original tritium (checked under UV) printing is crispy and that mosaic pattern pops like crazy in the light. CASE: Nice 34.5 case that wears larger than the numbers indicate, just shy of a classic Datejust (photographed on my 6.6 inch wrist.) The previously polished case has wear throughout as you would expect from a nearly 50 year old watch, mostly on the smooth bezel and case sides, but presents very well. CRYSTAL: Plexi crystal in great shape, showing off that stunning dial.
