[WTS] Longines 1890's conversion/marriage watch by Lothar
Yet another gorgeous timepiece created by my friend Lothar. He is an older German guy with incredible watchmaking skills, but zero internet skills. So far, I have had the privilege of being the only person to offer his works for sale online. I have sold many of his pieces right here on r/watchexchange and I will provide several examples of his other works in the comments. This is an example of a "conversion watch" or "marriage watch". The movement, dial and hands originally came from a pocket watch and are fitted into a wristwatch case. This is a rare example, as most conversion watches have large movements, which makes for big chunky watches, that might not be suitable for smaller wrists. At 38mm, this watch has a very tasteful and comfortable size that's appropriate for most people's wrists. It's rare to find a conversion watch in this size, because this medium size of movement was much less commonly made. Pics: https://imgur.com/a/ddgi0s4 Timestamp: https://imgur.com/a/OLLL3C4 This watch contains a top -grade Swiss-made 1890's movement made from solid nickel. The movement was made by Longines. The movement and dial are both signed "Theodore B. Starr - New York". This is the name of the jeweller that sold the original pocket watch in the 1890's. This movement is running extremely smoothly and is strikingly accurate for its age. The movement was cleaned and oiled in July, and the timing was adjusted to perfection very recently (Tuesday). I've had the watch running constantly for the last 3 days, and I haven't had to reset the time at all. It's still bang on time after 3 days. It's just amazing to see a ~130 year old machine that's still running so smoothly! This is a "pin -set" movement, so you change time by turning the crown while the pin is pushed in. Very easy and comfortable to use. The watch features a "fancy" porcelain dial with 3 colors beautifully printed: black, blue, and gold. The dial is flawless, no scratches, cracks, it damage of any kind. 12-hour dial with Roman numeral indices, and a gold minute-marker track with blue arabic numerals. The dial and hands are original to the movement. 38mm all stainless steel case with exhibition-back. Total thickness is approximately 10mm. 19mm lugs, set on a new/old stock two-piece leather strap in brown. The case is new and unworn. What a stunning piece! A rare chance to own a top quality conversion watch in a tasteful and comfortable size. Asking $879 USD OBO including shipping within North America. Great international shipping rates available too.
