This dial surpasses even some modern Grand Seiko offerings in depth and complexity, making it a true collector’s piece. What sets this model apart from most vintage Grand Seikos is its brushed top surface, giving it a unique, sportier aesthetic. Unlike the majority of GS cases that feature an entirely polished top, the 5646-7030 combines a brushed finish with high-polished accents, reminiscent of high-performance sports watches. The case is split into two sections, with the inner section being polished to perfection, accentuated by multifaceted lugs that create a striking contrast between the brushed and polished surfaces. This particular example is as close to NOS as it gets, having been expertly refinished by The Lapinist, one of the few artisans in the world capable of restoring vintage Grand Seikos to factory—if not better—specifications using the revered Zaratsu polishing technique.
