Up for sale is a Panama Chronometer from Rainer Brand. Rainer Brand (a person) is a German watchmaker located in Bavaria who launched his own eponymous watch brand (Rainer Brand) in the early 1990s. Rainer Brand produces around 400 watches each year. It makes its watches in Germany and has a strong focus on hand finishing its dials and other elements of its watches. I like their watches because Rainer Brand generally produce designs that seem restrained until you look more closely, when at which point the details start to shine. This watch is a Panama Chronometer model dating to the 2010s. The watch measures in with a 36mm diameter dial, though it wears larger because of its thinner bezel and wider 20mm square lugs. The black dial features polished fang indices, a single Breguet Numeral (12), and a pointer date sub dial. The black dial, however, is not simply a matte black, but rather a sunburst concentric guilloche pattern. The dial is beautifully executed and the centerpiece of this watch. While I see some elements of other watch brands in the design, it really is a unique combination of wonderfully executed elements that I haven't seen elsewhere. The case similarly has a unique touch. In terms of shape, it is a convex cylinder or something like the shape of a macaroon. The case shows different finishing techniques as well: the bezel and lugs are polished and the sides of the case are matte finish. Because of the shorter lugs, the case has cutouts between the lugs to prevent bracelet or strap rubbing--this is a case feature I see often on ultra thins produced by Audemars Piguet but otherwise do not see too often. The crown is signed with "RB" and the negative space is blacked out. The back of the watch features an exhibition caseback that shows off a modified and decorated ETA 2892-2 movement. The movement is chronometer certified. Overall, Rainer Brand is a small watchmaker that's been operating for more than 30 years with--from what I can see--very little following in the US (I believe this is the first ever posted in this subreddit). But nevertheless Rainer Brand makes one hell of a watch, and at that it makes a watch that keeps giving the more you look at it.
