*As a long time collector myself (over 20 years!) I go above and beyond to treat buyers the way I want to be treated when I’m the buyer. Which means every little scratch is accentuated, so a watch coming from me will look 10 times better in person! I do that so even the smallest scratches are not hidden - full transparency always! - Richard Now THIS is how you start off a long weekend, with a RARE Jumbo 1950s Zenith Chronograph, AKA the only watch that has ever made my longtime watchmaker truly freak out! This Jumbo Zenith Chronograph 156D is an incredible piece of horological history that so very rarely comes up for sale! For 12 years when Rolex needed THE best chronograph movement for their Daytona, they turned the Zenith! This is THE watch for the collector who appreciates horological history and wants that conversation piece. That piece that stands out of the crowd. I’d also say this is for the new vintage collector, used to wearing a modern piece and unsure of vintage sizing - well this is absolutely incredible and almost unheard of for the 1950s at 38MM! Honored to be consigning this special watch for a incredible collector (as always, all aspects of the sale will be handled by me.) DATE: 1950s DIAL: Again, these so rarely come up for sale, but when they do, of course being over 70 years old, the dials are either redone or have aged poorly. This is an absolutely incredible all original example, down to that beautiful light blue outer ring, which is almost never found intact! Such an awesome design, rose gold hour markers and hands, with those beautiful numerals, popping against the silver case. Of course even patina throughout, as expected given the age, but I don’t think a nicer example can be found! CASE: CLEAN and SHARP and I believe unpolished jumbo 38mm stainless case! At 38MM, with a lug to lug of 45MM, this has incredible wrist presence. Original signed Zenith crown, original pushers - it’s all there! Of course light wear throughout, given the age, but I hope I look this good when I’m in my 70s! CRYSTAL: Vintage plexi crystal, with wear throughout as you’d expect, but nothing that takes away from that beautiful dial. MOVEMENT: The hand wound cal 156D chronograph is truly a marvel! Again, when Rolex needed an improvement in their Daytona line, they turned to Zenith, a legend in the chronograph space. And this movement is historical within Zenith itself, showing the evolution of the famed chronograph maker as the 156D has a base movement that was provided to Zenith by Martel (who at the time were supplying high end chronograph bases to Universal Geneve for their Compaxes) Service history unknown, but winds and sets like butter, with chronograph snapping back beautifully and timegrapher numbers are incredible at 4 seconds a day with a very strong amplitude of 326!
