[WTS] Breitling vintage 806, Venus 178, manual wind, column wheel chronograph $3999 obo
Nov. 30th, 2024 - late evening PST Hello WatchEx, I am selling my vintage Breitling 806. I purchased it through my local watch shop here in Southern California about 6 months ago. It wasn’t purchased “blind” online. Though I appreciate all those websites, and the good ones are very reputable. Just clarifying that I trust my watch guy and he has only sold me fine pieces. I am selling to fund some newer watches I’ve acquired recently. I know that’s supposed to be the other way around. Haha! This Breitling 806 is in nice condition with honest wear throughout considering it’s from the late 1960’s. It’s been working quite well since I’ve acquired it. I’ve never had an issue with the Venus 178 movement. The movement has been running at +25 to +30 seconds a day. Its power reserve is roughly 45+ hours. Unfortunately I do not have any service history but I’ve have not experienced any red flags. The crown and pushers work as they should. Being a column wheel chronograph, the reset pusher at 4 o’clock, needs a firm push to completely reset to the chrono hand and sub-dial hands. I noticed that on other vintage (column wheel) chronographs. The crystal is clean and clear for its age. The case and case back show honest wear with visible light marks throughout (as seen in pics) Would never buff them out, but I guess you could. To the naked eye there are no major marks such as dents or deep scratches. The only obvious blemish I can see is two minor nicks on the bottom side of the lower left lug. I did provide a photo. The slide rule bezel moves freely all the way around. The hands show the expected patina, yet remain very legible. The lumed markers (indices) have completely darkened to a grayish brown color. You can really see the dark patina on the “12” marker. As well as the lume on the hour/minutes hands have changed to the same dark grayish brown color as the markers. I really enjoy the super vintage look on the markers, but I know it’s not for everyone. I think the rest of the dial makes it up for the “aged” markers. The matte black dial, with twin-jet logo, is in very good condition with nothing to report that can’t be seen in photos. The Breitling 806 will come with 4 (four) 22mm leather straps, one gray, one black, and two different brown straps (both brown straps are pictured). Only two buckles though. No box or papers, straight up vintage piece. I should be able to ship in a generic watch box or generic case. Please leave a comment first and I’ll try to get back ASAP for a chat. If I missed anything, please ask. I will take Zelle or PayPal FF. Asking $3999 or OBO. I’ve priced a little cheaper than most due to its age and/or wear. So I’m open to offers. This is a fine watch, but recently acquired other pieces and definitely could use some funds to help. I’ll ship FedEx, on me. Be well!
