Today I’m selling this cool all steel late 1960’s early 1970’s Omega Seamaster Compressor ref 166.042 with calibre 565.

The metallic bright blue ‘Dynamic’ style dial is really stunning and what attracted me to this piece when I purchased it. It’s one of those dials that changes hue depending how the light catches it and ranges from pale to dark blue. I have read that this dial style was used in the earlier years of this reference which would probably put it then somewhere between 1969 and 1971. White raised baton indices and stick hands with a contrasting white 5 minute chapter ring and turquoise blue seconds hand complete the sporty look.

The 34mm wide squared steel case is in good shape with some nice bevelling. It wears much larger than its dimensions suggest. There is a small ding in the case back.

Running a cal 565. The movement is running well and keeping time. Not being technical I haven’t opened the special compressor case. The signed crown for time and date setting is functioning perfectly. I haven’t had the movement serviced whilst in my ownership.

I’m selling this one head only. But if anyone would like it with this Bulang & Sons pebble strap we can talk about it for an additional cost.

Founded at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 1848 by 23-year-old Louis Brandt who assembled key-wound precision pocket watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen. He travelled throughout Europe selling his watches from Italy to Scandinavia by way of England, his chief market. After Louis Brandt's death in 1879, his two sons Louis-Paul and Cesar, troubled by irregular deliveries of questionable quality, abandoned the unsatisfactory assembly workshop system in favour of in-house manufacturing and total production control. Due to the greater supply of manpower, communications and energy in Bienne, the enterprise moved into a small factory in January 1880, then bought the entire building in December. Two years later the company moved into a converted spinning-factory in the Gurzelen district of Bienne, where headquarters are still situated today. Their first series-produced calibres, Labrador and Gurzelen, as well as, the famous Omega calibre of 1894, would ensure the brand's marketing success.
