Today I am offering a second Longines from my collection - a very rare and very special Longines conquest Power reserve.



For those that are interested in Longines, this to me, is one of their most beautiful models - certainly from within the conquest lineup. With my background in design engineering, I love the design, it appears simple yet complicated - almost like a sundial, or compass with very clear but visually important information being displayed. This of course is particularly accurate when we come to the centre wheel - which shows the watches power reserve. Matching the colour of the dial, it is subtle and yet a beautiful feature in its own right. So whilst being more "complicated" it appears elegant without superfluous detail. In general I do not buy watches with date windows either, but the clever placement at 12 O'clock on these models, opened my mind to trying something different - because it maintains the symmetry of the watch, it appears harmonious within the dial design.

Dial: For an 65 year old watch the dial is in remarkable shape, it is original first and foremost, which is increasingly rare in these models and in very very good condition. The dial is silver in colour and apart from a very light scratch on the centre dial, is in otherwise perfect condition. The minute track appaers to be machined into the face of the dial, which has created these striking shining concentric ring surfaces that reflect the light, next to the likewise bright and reflective indexes. In general, this watch invokes a spirt of the air in me, with a resemblance to some kind of chart that you might find in a cockpit - being stationary for some time - might also make use for the power reserve, especially on long haul flights! The hands are all original and overall make for a delightful dress watch.

Case: The stainless steel case is in nice shape and measures 35mm without crown. It appears to be unpolished and has retained it's chamfers and edges that would have had out of the factory 65 years ago. There are some age related scratches but it is in general very nice. It has a plain screwback case, which implies some level of water resistance, but I would not trust this around water given it's age without a pressure test. The crown is unsigned, but I have seen several others of this model without a signed crown, so it is possible that this is original to the watch and fits the watch very well - so I would not be concerned with this. Interestingly inside the caseback it is marked both 9031 and 9035 and having spoken to Longines themselves they have told me that they initially used this movement in 9031 models, and then restamped the surplus with 9035 when they moved to the next model. The cases themself I believe are the same between these two models, so I have yet to learn of any differences between these two references. It is a great size watch, with strong presence given it's more larger size than many vintage watches.

Movement: The movement is a calibre 292 and it is running very well. The power reserve is also working and goes up when you wind it, however, it might need a service soon as it is not correctly calibrated, e.g. when it is at zero it is showing as having some power. This hasn't bothered me too much, and I have continued to wear it as is. I offer no guarantees on accuracy. It is up to the buyers discretion if they wish to service it upon receipt of the watch. I have not experienced anything that concerns me, but as with all second hand watches, I recommend that they are serviced for your peace of mind.

Strap: The straps pictured are for demonstration only, however I am happy to include a strap from my collection subject to what I have spare and available. A genuine time correct Longines steel buckle will also be included.

Box / Papers: As pictured, this includes display box and outer cardboard box, but no papers. It also includes the Longines extract from the archives which is a nice addition to add to the provenance.
