Rolex Submariner transitional reference 168000 aka “Triple Zero” from 1987 Not only does a “Triple Zero” rarely pop up as it was only produced for a 7-9 month window, but this one also delivers with patina in a thicc, sharp case. This era mark when Rolex ended serials starting with numbers and started with letters. Perks of such an era? Vintage elements such as “open” font in the datewheel but updated crown system as well as 904L steel. Lastly, the dial is showing signs of continued aging and spotting. While I do not know the service history, winding and quickset are smooth and the automatic moment is keeping time at approximately +2sec/day with 260 amplitude (ymmv).
