This is a beautiful Longines "Express Leader" railroad pocket watch from the 1890's. It comes with a handmade display/travel case. The dial is marked "A. Bissonnette, Montreal". This is the name of the jeweller who sold the watch, which was a common way of marking dials back then. This movement was made by Longines in Switzerland and boasts 19-jewels adjusted in 5 positions. This is a top notch railroad grade movement. Pics: https://imgur.com/a/hKiApFj Timestamp: https://imgur.com/a/4HEEPzo This also has a railroad style case. Oversized 62mm diameter. The case is made of "Silverode", a metal alloy that is also known as "Silveroid" or "Silverine" depending on the branding of the manufacturer. It is a nickel/copper alloy. This material was favored at the time for it's unmatched durability. It's a solid alloy, so there is no plating to wear off. It's non-reactive, so it doesn't tarnish or oxidize. It weathers very well over the years, and responds well to polishing. It is very similar to stainless steel in all these ways, but stainless steel hadn't been invented yet. For these reasons, Silverode was favored by many, but especially by those who used the watch in a professional environment, such as train engineers. A Canadian-style "double red" railroad dial has the 24h-hour markers printed in red, but inside from where 12-hour markers are. A minute track runs around the outer edge with the numerals in red again. This dial is a perfect example of the style, and it is in flawless condition. Beautiful white porcelain with no chips or scratches. All parts of the watch are original, except the crystal. A NOS antique glass crystal was used for the replacement. Movement is running smoothly and keeping time very well. The watch comes with a custom handmade display case that also folds up for safe transportation. The case was made by Lothar, a prolific watchmaker whose products I have sold on Reddit many times before. See my post history for examples. The case has a safety bar to hold the watch in place, so it doesn't fall out when you're moving the case and watch around. Just slide out the bar, and you can then remove the watch from it's case. The crown can be wound without removing it from the case, but the movement is "lever-set", not "crown-set" so you would take it out of the case in order to adjust the time. The base of the case is 4-inches by 4-inches, and sits about 4 inches high when open. By sliding the case closed, the height goes down to 1.5 inches. This is a top quality timepiece and the case is perfect for displaying the watch on a desk/mantle/shelf. This would make a great present for any watch collector, and can be delivered long before Christmas. Asking $560 USD OBO including shipping within North America. Great international rates available too.
