Up for sale is another that I’m sure I’ll regret selling but that just doesn’t get the wrist time it deserves. It’s a grail vintage Seamaster - a beefy lug steel 2846 ref. featuring an original black waffle dial with a crosshair and arabic numerals. As if that wasn’t enough, it’s a big hippocampus caseback model, made only in ~1958. Full info is below, and don’t hesitate to message me with questions.
Dial: The dial is the star of the show on this one. An absolutely stunning and exceedingly rare dial variant: original, non-refinished, non-luminous black waffle dial with a crosshair and Arabic numerals. It’s in nice condition with just a very light patina.
Case: The 34.5mm stainless steel 2846 reference case features the first iteration hippocampus medallion on the caseback, with the large size only found in ~1958. When I purchased the watch, it came with an incorrect mid case that I swapped for a correct one to put it back to its original form. The big hippocampus caseback is the original to the watch and matches the movement serial. Excuse the sticker on the caseback, it’s meant to protect the medallion from damage. The case has minor wear but nothing too bad, and it remains in unpolished (or close to it) condition with sharp bevels on the lugs and engravings on the caseback.
Crown: Correct flat foot logo clover crown.
Crystal: Generic crystal is free of scratches.
Movement: The original 501 caliber automatic movement was serviced in 2020 and runs, winds, and sets well, but it is currently running a little over a minute slow.
Strap: Comes on the 18mm smooth black leather strap pictured (not the textured one).
