# Reference: **Model**: Seiko 3883-7000 "Brushed Steel" **Year**: January 1974 **Album**: [https://imgur.com/a/qTtKAzu](https://imgur.com/a/qTtKAzu) **Timestamp:** [https://imgur.com/a/7FGU4cQ](https://imgur.com/a/7FGU4cQ) # Features: **The Price.** Produced in 1974, and costing roughly $5000 in today’s money, the 3883 “Brushed Steel” was one of the most expensive Seikos money could buy. Compared to Seiko’s own offerings, the 3883-7000 was vastly expensive. A Grand Seiko VFA, the most advanced mechanical watch Seiko had ever produced, cost half a 3883, while the beloved 6138 vertical clutch Chronograph only cost a tenth of one! **The Accuracy.** The Brushed Steel “Morpho” houses the 3883 “Superior” movement - a formidable calibre. This was one of Seiko’s, and indeed the world’s, earliest thermocompensated movements, boasting accuracy of +/-12 seconds per year, which holds its own against Grand Seiko’s modern 9F movements. **The Dial.** As fantastic as the morphing butterfly wing dial is, there still a lot to love about the brushed steel version. Each brings its own distinct personality to an already outstanding design. For example, the indices should not be overlooked. 60 of them, all individually applied. The minute markers have four vertical grooves cut into their faces, and the hour markers have been chemically blackened which gives the dial a certain gravitas over the Morpho. **The Case.** The case is a great example of Taro Tanaka’s “Grammar of Design” - the philosophy that demanded mathematical perfection from every case angle, and with as many flat surfaces as possible in order to maximise Seiko’s masterful Zaratsu finishing. # Details: **Condition**: Great condition overall.
