Up for sale is a very rare Sinn 147. There’s not much info on the internet about it, much of which is in German. But from what I can gather, somewhere between 1978 and 1980 Lemania wanted to make a watch that could showcase their then-new 5100 series movements, a movement specifically designed to combat the arrival of low-cost Japanese quartz movements. The result was the Lemania Marchairuz, which housed the Lemania 5012, a version of the 5100 without the 24hr subdial. Sinn (along with others) partnered with Lemania to produce their own derivative using the same case, but with the 5100 movement. Thus, the 147 was born. Some of them were delivered to the Italian armed forces with white Italian date wheels, some were fitted with a black German date wheels, and some had the 3H logo. Estimates for total number produced lie between 20-100, making this a rare bird indeed. It wears quite well for its 38mm size, albeit a little chunky, which is perfect for a tool-watch. A more recent release for the Japanese market—Sinn Military Type II (check out Sinn’s history and presence in Japan, that is another interesting dive in itself)—has similar design cues if not directly inspired by this model. Regardless of its history, I count myself lucky to have owned it, but now it’s time to let someone else enjoy it. This just came back from cleaning, regulation, and oil from my watchmaker. It has typical scratches and light scuffs reflective of its life as a tool. The tritium on the dial and bezel tip match perfectly, with a little bit missing on the base of the hour hand. Service history is unknown, but it keeps time well. Reason for sale is to pay off wife’s outstanding student loans. Also selling off a good bit of my collection in other posts.
