[WTS] Vintage 1960s Bulova Snorkel Skindiver ref. 386-4 "Devil Diver"
Hi folks, for sale is one of the nicest examples of a super cool vintage Devil Diver that I have ever seen – the Bulova Snorkel Skindiver ref. 386-4 from the late 1960s! This watch was originally designed by Bulova for skin diving and snorkeling rather than deep diving, which allowed them to make the watch more wearable and less chunky. The case measures a very wearable 36mm x 42mm x 13mm thick, but about 3mm of that is the bubble crystal – the case itself is remarkably thin for a vintage automatic! With the thin, comfy leather strap that matches the creamy tritium lume, it’s pretty much the most perfect vintage diver on the wrist that I’ve ever experienced. Condition wise I would put this at a strong vintage 90%. There are normal signs of light vintage wear throughout the case and a few light hairlines on the plexi crystal but overall the watch presents amazingly. The lume plots are perfect, they have patina’d to a beautiful golden yellow and match the hands. The bezel has only light wear on it and still has both its lume pip and all of the black paint in its markers still intact! It rotates beautifully in bidirectional clicks. The most notable wear on the watch are some tiny dings on the 11 o’clock lug but overall this is an absolutely beautiful example. I was told that it was originally purchased from “Those Watch Guys” on Instagram. Service history and waterproof status is unknown, however on a full wind it is running -2 to +3 with 320 amp and 0.4BE. After a bit of run time it speeds up significantly to about +48sec per day dial up. Your mileage may vary – vintage watches tend to run further out of spec when their power reserve drops. For regular wear, the buyer may consider a full service and pressure test. Overall this is one of the nicest examples of a Devil Diver I have ever seen – the new owner will not be disappointed! *Note for vintage watches: I do my best to describe any watch I sell to the best of my ability, but old watches are like old cars – they can be temperamental, need service at any time, and are generally not as reliable or as precise as a modern watch. It should be assumed that unless I know the service history the watch will likely need a service if you plan to wear it frequently. Even post-service (depending on the watchmaker), vintage watches can still be less reliable than modern watches. I take great lengths to safely package the watches that I ship but vintage watches have been known to be more prone to having damage during shipping due to vibrations, screws backing out, etc. Please understand this before buying a vintage watch online in general!* Timestamp for Reddit: [https://preview.redd.it/wts-vintage-1960s-bulova-snorkel-skindiver-ref-386-4-devil-v0-ejp4u2i0zawe1.jpg?width=1080&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=137cfb7a7e906b5672fae2d3370b8e27b4f71c40](https://preview.redd.it/wts-vintage-1960s-bulova-snorkel-skindiver-ref-386-4-devil-v0-ejp4u2i0zawe1.jpg?width=1080&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=137cfb7a7e906b5672fae2d3370b8e27b4f71c40) I am asking $1,200 including fully insured shipping in the US. !
