TIMESTAMP: [https://imgur.com/a/fbLWtAU](https://imgur.com/a/fbLWtAU) Hello, friends. Here we have a very cool Rolex Oyster Speedking Precision Ref. 6421. Say hello to the affordable Rolex that exudes quiet wealth and subtle elegance, but is unmistakably still the king of watches. It's a classically smaller 30.5mm case size, which looks elegant on a man or a woman. It's photographed here on my 7.75-inch wrist, so as you can see, it wears larger than its size, even on a big guy like me. The Speedking was named in honor of land speed record-breaker Sir Malcolm Campbell, and was produced from 1941 to 1970. Three things make this particular Speedking special: the "engine turned" bezel, a delicately beautiful precursor to today's fluted bezel that is less common than the smooth bezel on the Speedking; the black and gold dial, which is extremely rare on these watches [if you check around](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Rolex+speedking+6421&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p4432023.m570.l1313), and lastly, the gold case. The case tests as 10 karat gold, and certainly looks like gold, as you can see, even after nearly 70 years, but **I don't believe it's solid gold**. Contrary to popular belief, Rolex did make some gold capped watches in this era. The process was way better than today's gold plating. The cases weren't solid gold but they used a lot more gold than gold plating,, which explains why this one tests as 10 karat gold and still looks like gold after all this time. The caseback is stainless steel. Cosmetically, as you can see, the watch is in remarkable condition for being 70 years old, but has the usual vintage character.  It was owned by one person for its lifespan, until recently, when that person's cousin inherited it. The crystal is in good condition, and any small blemishes you're seeing are visible and glowing due to the bright light I used for the photos. They are not terribly visible in normal conditions. That said, you could easily sand this crystal and make it perfect, since this is from the acrylic (plexiglass) crystal era. (I also have not cleaned the watch in any way). Mechanically, the crown unscrews and screws down properly. The watch winds and sets easily and smoothly. It's running and keeping time. It has not been on a timegrapher (we could probably arrange that) but through my best observations using an atomic clock, it seems to be within 15-30 seconds after 24 hours. I have not had it serviced. Though it has been serviced in its lifetime, I don't know how long it has been. It comes on a vintage Spiedel lizard strap, which is appropriate to this reference. The buckle appears to be a Rolex buckle, though I haven't authenticated it or verified that. I tested the buckle, and it's gold plated. The Rolex movement is the Caliber 1210. One other cool quirk that I forgot to mention! The caseback on this Rolex is double stamped from the Rolex factory with both 6040 and 6041. A watchmaker actually scratched out the 6040 and left only 6041 (“6041” is also engraved on the outside of the case, between the lugs).  Rolex, up through the 60s, frequently interchanged case backs, using whatever they had available on hand. That's why there are 5512 Submariners out there with 5513 casebacks, Daytonas with casebacks that don't match, etc. It does not mean the caseback was replaced, though people often mistakenly think that. Any other questions, just ask! Asking $1700 OR BEST OFFER. ALL OFFERS ARE RESPECTED. LET’S TALK!
