Up for sale is a MINT Longines "Weems" pilot watch reissue --- Reference L2.606.4. This watch is a faithful re-issue of the WW2 era WEEMS second-setting watch. The watch got its name from the iconic rotating bezel and locking mechanism invented by US Navy Lt Cdr P. V. H. An Omega version of a similar design was famously worn by the Spitfire pilot played by Tom Hardy in the movie Dunkirk. This particular model was introduced in the early 1990s for the Japanese market in very limited quantities (1000 in total). It has the same 33mm diameter as the original 1940s models,16mm lugs, and a period-correct non-hacking movement (that's what the bezel was for). Underneath the slightly domed sapphire crystal is a beautiful cream/silver sector dial with blued hands. The movement is a modified top grade ETA 2801 with the hacking function removed. The watch is in immaculate mint condition with no visible scratches on the case sides or bezel under normal lighting. The case back has a few faint scratches, but nothing jarring. The movement beats at a healthy amplitude, and I am happy to provide photos of the timegrapher results. The factory leather straps are in decent condition for their age (no cracks or anything), and the watch will also come with a pair of aftermarket black shell cordovan straps (shown in pics). No original case or papers (will provide an aftermarket foam padded hard case for transport).
