Nivada Grenchen has made a major comeback as a resurrected Swiss watch brand from the dating back to 1928. A victim of the quartz crisis of the 1970s, they were forced to close shop in the 1980s. Fast forward to 2018 when legendary watch enthusiast and entrepreneur Guillaume Laidet relaunched the brand. In 1955/56 the US Navy used the water restraint Nivada Grenchen Antarctic in operation Deep Freeze I when explorers ventured to the South Pole. The Nivada Grenchen Super Antarctic 3.6.9 pays tribute to this watch and these brave explorers.

Up for sale is a recent acquisition catch and release for me. Brand new in box Nivada Grenchen Super Antarctic 3.6.9 Tropic Dial explorer purchased June 25, 2023. The watch is new and unworn. Stickers were removed for photo purposes only but will be included with the watch when delivered. I own a couple of other Nivada Grenchen watches and they are fantastic timepieces with excellent fit finish, and quality for the price. I just did not bond with this one when I received it despite rave reviews online so I am offering it up for sale. The watch is very nicely finished with the rich Tropic brown dial and classic 3.6.9 dial markers reminiscent of a Rolex Explorer. The watch case is Stainless Steel and measures 38mm with 20mm lug width. It comes on a very nice brown leather rally strap with signed buckle. Crown is screw down type with Nivada logo. Water resistant to 100meters. Crystal is sapphire with AR coating. Movement is the the Swiss made Soprod P024 automatic which is similar to an ETA 2824. A quick run up on the time graph shows this watch running very well with minimal beat error and +3 to +6 seconds per day.
