I'm selling my prized 1944 Longines USN BuShips watch in an effort to further reduce my collection. This watch is an amazing piece of history and damn good looking too. I purchased this several years ago on ebay and while I could write my own text about the watch, the original listing is way better than anything I could put together so I will post that below. I'm looking to get 450 euro for the watch. The watch ships from Spain. I can accept wire/wise/revolut/venmo/zelle. I have plenty of feedback here and over on WUS under the username creepshow. \[Full Album\] https://imgur.com/a/yUfo9is \[Timestamp\] https://imgur.com/N2qG4ea \*\*Original listing text below\*\* *This is a nice WWII era USN naval watch from late 1944.* *The case back features an engraving that reads “USN BuShips”, indicating a U.S. Navy issue watch. The US Navy’s Bureau of Ships was in operation from 1940 to 1966.* *All steel crew back case measures 34mm without crown. Original crown is present.* *Heavy, down turned lugs, and very pleasing well aged silver satin dial with a warm patina’d champagne glow. With painted, luminous filled numbers and a black outer minute track, and luminous filled blued steel hands.* *Marked Longines and Swiss.* *The case shows wear with some small dings and scratches. The back cover is marked USN Buships. The back cover has several scratches on it. The inside of the back cover is marked Acier Inox, Longines Watch Co Swiss. The movement is marked Longines Watch Co Swiss, Sixteen 16 Jewels, 23M.* *Freshly cleaned and lubricated. Fully functional.* *Comes on a really cool period correct old leather strap.* *Historical background:* *Vintage Longines 12L Caliber 23M 16 jewel military watch from the US Navy, Atlantic Fleet circa 1944. A US Navy staff watch produced between the years 1940 and 1944 in 4 lots, one lot per year. This watch was distributed to officers of warships of the American Navy, with a distinction between the models which is located in the caseback: the models assigned to the Atlantic fleet being with notches comparable to the British models in order to simplify stopover maintenance operations in a port on English territory.* *Although less celebrated than the Pacific Fleet, the US Navy in the Atlantic played a major role in the unfolding of World War II. Associated with the Royal Navy to which it is helping, it will help secure supplies to the front against Germany and the Axis troops despite the intensification of submarine warfare and its packs of U-Boats just like in the movie Greyhound.* *Two landings were implemented by the ships of the US Navy in the Atlantic: the first in North Africa in 1942 with Operation Torch and the second, more decisive in Normandy in 1944.* *This watch has a 16-jewel Longines 23M caliber movement which operates at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour with a 42-hour power reserve. The screwed flat back watch meets the maintenance standards of the workshops located on the Atlantic coast and bears the Bureau of Ships markings as well as the staffing number in the US Navy. The movement number indicates a manufacture from 1944. The watch is in perfect working order.*
