*This ABSOLUTE LEGEND has been on hold a few times but the deals didn’t complete so starting off the new year with a BIG price drop so someone can ride 2024 in dream style!!!* The Patek Philippe Calatrava goes beyond the word icon - it is simply THE dress watch to end all dress watches. And when it comes to vintage, the rare jumbo ref. 570 is one of the most sought after references! (The Patek worn by Andy Warhol, famously auctioned off years back.) These so rarely come up for sale, especially a BEAUTIFUL example like this, in original condition complete with a recent full service (and accompanying paperwork) as well as the Extract from the Archives from Patek! Amazing to think that in the 1938, looking to perfect its first Calatrava, the ref 96, Patek went jumbo, to 36MM (ultra rare for the time, when most men’s dress watches were 31 - 33mm) and so the 570 was born! Honored to be consigning this incredible watch for an awesome collector (as always, all aspects of the sale will be handled by me.) REFERENCE: 570 YEAR: 1962 DIAL: From the soft pearl color to the sword hands to the central seconds - THE definition of elegance! Very rare to find these at all, but especially with an unwashed dial. Unfortunately when found, these dials are often scrubbed in an attempt to remove any patina, but it also sadly removes the original beautiful pearlescent enamel. Not the case here! This also has the raised enamel lettering, which is just awesome. This was a technique Patek used for some of their dials in the 50s and 60s, called ‘champlevé,’ where the script was first engraved then filled in with vitreous enamel. As you can see in the macro shots, it’s SO SWEET! Because the dial hasn’t been touched, there is patina around the edges, mostly on the crown side. But again, just amazing to find original! (Vintage crystal has light age related wear, as expected, but looks incredible as well.) CASE: SHARP 36MM solid 18k yellow gold! Now this is how you want to find a vintage gold watch, with crisp lines and that beautiful rosy patina that forms when it hasn’t been touched. The gold hallmarks are all present, and deep, another sign of minimal, if any, polishing over the decades. Photographed on a 7.2 inch wrist, you can see how much presence this piece has! MOVEMENT: The legendary Patek hand wound cal 27SC movement was fully serviced just shy of two years ago by Shellman, with accompanying paperwork included. The current owner has worn it less than a dozen since, so as you would imagine, it is winding like butter, setting, perfectly, and keeping incredible time! STRAP: Comes on a beautiful rosy brown aftermarket leather strap and buckle, picking up on the rosy gold case, complementing the watch perfectly (but several strap options buyer can choose from.) ACCESSORIES: Watch on strap pictured, with paperwork from the recent service, as well as the Extract from the Archives from Patek. That is awesome to have, documenting the movement number, the case number, and its original sale date. (Prices on the extracts have grown over the years, now $500 each!)
