Hello all. Up for sale is a very special Rolex DateJust 1603 from 1971. In general, the DateJust is a quintessential classic. At 36mm across and with its timeless look, it wear well on any wrist in any setting. But, this one is a little more special than many of the examples that are out there. Unlike the vast majority of these watches that have been polished over the last 50 years, this one appears to have been untouched. This is quite unusual since most people who bought a DateJust wanted a watch that looks new rather than one that looks original. As a result, it is getting tougher and tougher to find unpolished examples especially the further that you go back in time. The other, pretty obvious thing about this watch is that beautiful gray dial with the "ghost" white insignia. When considering the 160x series DJs, these gray dials were quite rare to begin with. The scarcity issue was compounded by the fact that the early colored dials from Rolex often deteriorated quite significantly over time (the blue dials were also very susceptible to this problem). As a result, finding these in as-good of condition in 2024 if tough to say the least. Combining the unpolished case with the exquisite dial and the fact that the watch was recently serviced and runs with a very strong amplitude of just below 300 degrees makes this a watch that doesn't come up for sale very often. As shown, it comes on its likely-original, tight oval link bracelet with a 62510H clasp that appears to have been replaced around 1997 since it has the Z1 date code. Note that the 1997 date only applies to the clasp as these oval link bracelets were only made up to the mid 70s.
