The distinctive colour combination gives the watch a posh and athletic look. The watch's distinctive appearance and usefulness are enhanced by its dual register structure, which includes a 30-minute and a 12-hour counter, and is driven by the sturdy Seiko 6138 automatic movement.This Seiko 6138-8030 automatic chronograph was unofficially nicknamed the JPS, as the black and gold colours resembled the tobacco firms F1 sponsorship of Lotus. Unlike the earlier 6139 Seiko automatic chronographs, the 6138 movement added the ability to hand wind the movement and a second register. The quick set day and date is working perfectly, and day is in English and Kanji. The strap is a new camel grain padded Condor item. The stainless steel case shows very few marks for its 40+ years, and the crystal is likewise very good. The lume in the hands and hour markers have discoloured. The tachymeter scale has not faded.The 6138-8030 was manufactured in the 1970s, a decade that saw tremendous progress for Seiko, and it perfectly captures the allure and artistry of that time period. Its association with the JPS racing team and the world of motorsports increases its attraction to collectors. Its design has helped it to remain desirable as a vintage watch.
