With a width closer to 50mm than 40mm, watches don’t get much tougher than the A13371 from Breitling. From its launch, the Avenger II collection has been best known for its use of Breitling's signature ratcheted bezel with four projecting "rider tabs." The look was designed to assist pilots in more easily gripping the bezel while wearing gloves. Here it is seen in stainless steel to match its larger-than-life steel case. The huge bezel of the Super Avenger II plays a huge part in emphasizing the distinctive style of the model, as does its knurled crown flanked by crown guards and the duo of imposing chronograph pushers.

The dial of the Super Avenger II is suitably purposeful with bold styling, substantial dial furniture, and an active consciousness regarding heightened legibility. There is a great range of depth on offer here with a mixture of applied hour markers, and sunken sub-registers producing an impressive dynamism. Its pointed and luminous hands, large sweeping chronograph hand, and neatly framed date aperture effectively convey usability with tons of aggressive character. From top to bottom this tough as nails Breitling talks the talk and certainly walks the walk. As far as oversized chronographs go, the Super Avenger II undoubtedly takes the crown.

Condition
