For sale is this vintage IWC piece with solid platinum case and the venerable cal. 89 manual wind movement. The interesting thing about the case, other than platinum being the rarest precious metal used in watches, is that during the 1960’s import duties were very high on platinum. So IWC contracted with their distributor in Japan, Isomura, to manufacture the case and shipped the incomplete watches to Japan for final assembly. These watches are denoted with a small Japanese flag on the inside of the caseback, and are extremely rare. - The case measures approximately 35mm x 42mm, and given the large dial it has a ton of presence on the wrist with the polished platinum lugs and high domed crystal. - Wrist shot on my 6.5" wrist provided for reference on the sizing. - The dial is in excellent condition for its age, unrefinished with some minor marks. Case and movement serials date this to the early 1960's - Timekeeping has been excellent, under about +10 seconds a day although I don't have exact figures. Please understand that as good as condition is, this is a vintage watch and a service evaluation is recommended for long-term use.
