I am selling my Omega Seamaster 120M 176.004 “Big Blue”. This is a very rare watch, and one in this condition is rarer still. This may be the nicest condition 176.004 Big Blue available, and most likely will be for some time. I acquired this watch this past February with every intention of keeping it. I was actively selling off the rest of my collection to offset the price of this and was doing so gladly as this is a grail for me. However, my other passion is racing, and I have an opportunity that just came up to take our racing to the next level in endurance and sports car racing and I need to raise funds. If any of you have ever dipped your toes into competitive auto racing, you’ll know what I mean.

I purchased this from Wrist Icons, a very reputable dealer in vintage and luxury watches from Amsterdam. Prior to my receiving the watch, the Omega 1040 movement was cleaned and oiled by his watchmaker. All functions are working perfectly. Putting it on your wrist is like taking a step back in time! This example is in excellent cosmetic condition with barely a mark on it for being almost 48 years old! Finding an example in this condition is near impossible. This was the first automatic chronograph dive watch from Omega. The 1040 movement has a big central minutes chronograph hand with the tip painted in orange, similar to the Lemania 5100 that came after. Omega didn’t produce many of these as they were very expensive in their day and tended to be purchased by professional divers, or so the story goes. It is very common for the original tritium dial to start deteriorating and the tritium to “spill” onto the dial. It is also common for surviving examples to have been to Omega for service where their dials, hands, and original Bakelite bezel were replaced. This example was overhauled by Omega via the previous owner and then was put away in a safe where it sat. That is why the movement was serviced and seals replaced by Wrist Icons after my purchase before they shipped it to me. They wanted to be sure it was in perfect working order prior to shipping it to me.

I purchased a period correct original Tropic Sport strap for it with an Omega buckle which I think looks excellent on it. I wore it sparingly on the strap and never on the pristine, original 1162/172 Omega bracelet. It will come with the original dial, hands, case back, and crown that were replaced at the Omega service/refurbishment, as well as the Omega Extract showing it provenance and build date of December 1974.
